Mobility in Southern Cross University, Australia

Southern Cross University (“SCU”) is a medium sized university in Australia with campuses across Northern New South Wales and a rapidly growing presence in Southern Queensland. Over the last year, SCU has been developing and implementing a standardised but flexible learning environment. The flexible learning environment is focussed on giving students any where, any time, any device access to educational content and materials as well as key university services.

To support a growing range of course and delivery options, the community engagement system and mobile modules deployed have given SCU a solid foundation upon which to expang development of a “Personalised Learning Environment”.

The presentation will present SCU’s experience in transforming its old legacy learning environment in to one that that provides student centric, anywhere, anytime access to learning regardless of the their location or mode of delivery.

Bio:

Matthew Smith has more than 20 years experience in the IT Industry and is currently Director, Technology Services at Southern Cross University. In his current role he is responsibilities for the IT, Telecommunications and Educational Technology infrastructure and services for Southern Cross University.

He has previously held roles including Associate Director IT Governance, Strategy and Planning, Associate Director, Information Systems at Swinburne University in Melbourne and Manager of the ICT Faculty’s technical support area. He has diverse experience in the tertiary education sector having occupied roles in research, project management, development as well as system and database administration.

Matthew has a Masters degree in Information Technology, and a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering.

教育信息化建设与应用发展需要全球视野、开放思维和战略眼光。本报告通过考察国际上特别是美国的教育技术推进历程、发展走向以及部分较有参考价值的应用项目，联系我国教育信息化发展动态，从技术发展、应用发展和理论发展三个方面选择性地介绍一些值得关注的研究与实验项目。

The construction, application and development of education informationalization requires global perspectives, open minds and strategic vision. This report investigates the history of progress and trends of development of education technology, as well as certain cases worth studying in the international community, especially the United States. It also looks into the latest development of education informationalization in China and introduces a selection of noteworthy studies and experimental projects in terms of technological development, application development and theoretical development.
